Meet the Artist Behind Zoopeez | Pet Portrait Australia with Breeze

Meet Our Pet Portrait Artist: Breeze

Behind every Zoopeez pet portrait is a real human (hi 👋), a whole lot of love for animals, and a deep belief that pets deserve to be celebrated.

My name is Breeze. I’m 24 years old, I started Zoopeez when I was just 17, and today I create custom dog portraits, cat portraits, and personalised pet gifts for pet lovers across Australia.

Here’s a little Q&A so you can get to know the artist behind your custom pet portrait.

Q: How did Zoopeez start?

I started Zoopeez at 17 years old.

I’ve always loved being creative — drawing, designing, making things — and I’ve always loved animals. Growing up, pets were everything to me.

I struggled with my mental health throughout school and ended up dropping out. Zoopeez became my way of channeling that creativity into something positive. What started small eventually went viral online, and suddenly people all over Australia were ordering custom pet portraits.

It honestly changed my life.

Today, Zoopeez specialises in pet portrait Australia orders, as well as custom pet gifts like tumblers, shirts, bowls and more.

Q: How did you develop your unique pet portrait style?

When I first started creating pet portraits, I experimented constantly.

I studied expressions. Fur patterns. Eye shapes. Light reflections. I practised over and over until I developed a style that felt clean, expressive and emotionally warm.

My goal has always been to create portraits that feel:

  • Lifelike but artistic

  • Detailed but not overworked

  • Personal and emotional

Over time, that became the Zoopeez look — soft, expressive, personality-driven artwork that feels modern and special.

Q: What is the most challenging part of creating these portraits?

The hardest part is actually not the drawing — it’s the responsibility.

When someone orders a custom dog portrait or custom cat portrait, they’re trusting me with something incredibly meaningful. Sometimes it’s a memorial piece. Sometimes it’s a gift for a dog mum or cat dad. Sometimes it’s their first pet.

Capturing that emotional weight is the biggest challenge — but also the biggest honour.

Q: How do you capture the personality of each pet?

The eyes. Always the eyes.

A pet’s personality lives in:

  • The eye shape

  • The shine and reflection

  • The slight tilt of their head

  • Their ear position

  • Their mouth expression

Before I even start drawing, I study the reference photo carefully. I look for what makes that pet different from every other dog or cat.

Is the dog goofy? Is the cat sassy? Is the puppy shy? Is the senior dog gentle?

That subtle expression is what turns a portrait into a true pet portrait, not just a copy of a photo.

Q: Do you have tips for pet owners to provide the best reference photos?

Yes — and this makes a HUGE difference.

If you’re ordering a custom pet portrait in Australia, here’s how to get the best result:

  • Use natural lighting (near a window or outdoors)

  • Avoid heavy shadows on the face

  • Make sure both eyes are visible

  • Take the photo at eye level (not from above)

  • Keep the image high resolution (not blurry or zoomed in)

The clearer the eyes and expression, the better the portrait.

Q: What makes a custom pet portrait such a meaningful gift?

Pets are family.

A dog portrait or cat portrait captures a bond that’s hard to explain in words. That’s why custom pet gifts are so powerful — they’re not generic. They’re personal.

Whether it’s for:

  • A dog mum

  • A dog dad

  • A cat lover

  • A new pet owner

  • A memorial gift

A pet portrait feels thoughtful because it truly is.

Q: What’s your favourite part of running Zoopeez?

Seeing customer reactions.

When someone messages saying they cried happy tears opening their portrait… that never gets old.

Knowing that something I created is now hanging in someone’s home, or printed on a tumbler, or gifted for Father’s Day — that’s the best part.
